Key Responsibilities

  • Support the recruitment and selection process for hotel positions, including identifying candidates, screening and interviewing applicants, coordinating reference and background checks, and completing applicable documentation.

  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date employee personnel records in accordance with company requirements and applicable legislation.

  • Partner with department leaders to anticipate staffing needs and support workforce planning and related budgeting.

  • Collect, document, and analyze employee-related information, including exit interviews, turnover, absenteeism, to identify trends and opportunities to support employee engagement, development, and retention.

  • Coordinate and support company and hotel People & Culture initiatives, which may include annual compensation processes, incentive programs, benefits enrollment and communication, wage and hour surveys, and other related programs.

  • Support employee relations processes by responding to workplace concerns, gathering relevant information, documenting findings, and supporting appropriate resolutions in accordance with company policies and applicable legislation.

  • Promote a positive and respectful workplace by providing guidance to employees and leaders, regarding company policies, procedures, and workplace practices.

  • Support compliance with applicable employment legislation, regulatory requirements, and company policies and procedures.  Conduct periodic reviews of People & Culture practices and documentation and make recommendations for improvements, as appropriate.

  • Communicate and interpret company and hotel policies, procedures, and employee programs to employees and leaders.

  • Facilitate and support training and development initiatives, which may include new employee orientation, guest service training, performance management, workplace conduct, and other company or hotel programs.

  • Conduct new employee orientation and provide employees with information regarding company standards, policies, procedures, workplace expectations, and available employee programs.

  • Support the administration and documentation of workplace safety and workers' compensation processes in accordance with applicable requirements.  Assist with safety initiatives and promote employee awareness of safe work practices.

  • Prepare and provide appropriate documentation in response to unemployment claims and participate in related hearings or proceedings, as required.

  • Promote teamwork and quality service through regular communication and collaboration with employees, department leaders, Corporate People & Culture, Legal, People & Culture Shared Services, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Communicate with external contacts as required, including candidates and applicants, guests, vendors, regulatory agencies, professional organizations, community groups, and other stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and support locally developed employee recognition and engagement initiatives, as applicable.

  • May serve as Manager on Duty, as required.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Accountability

This position serves as the second-in-command within the People & Culture department at a large, full-service luxury or resort property, typically supporting a workforce of more than 300 employees.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in Human Resources, with post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Professional Human Resources designation (e.g., CPHR, CHRP, PHR/SPHE, or equivalent) is preferred.

  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is required.  Additional language skills are considered an asset.

This position requires the ability to perform the following duties:

  • Carry or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • Stand and move throughout the property as required.

  • Handle documents, files, training materials, equipment, and other workplace items.

  • Use a keyboard and computer to prepare and maintain work-related documents.

Other Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to effectively interact with employees, vendors, Corporate People & Culture, Legal, and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, reasoning, coaching, and training skills are required.

  • Basic mathematical and financial skills are required, including an understanding of budgeting, percentages, variances, and basic profit and loss concepts.

  • The regular schedule for this position is Tuesdays to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Flexibility is required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
