HVAC Refrigeration Technician - InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef

As our HVAC Technician, you’ll maintain, repair and optimise air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration systems across the resort and Staff Village, ensuring everything operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain, repair and optimise HVAC, ventilation and refrigeration systems across the resort and Staff Village, minimising disruption to guest and resort operations.

• Carry out preventative maintenance on split systems, VRV/VRF systems, commercial chillers, chilled water systems, AHUs and FCUs.

• Ensure fridge, freezer and cold room equipment operates efficiently across kitchens, bars and storage areas.

• Diagnose faults, complete repairs and respond to urgent maintenance requests and after-hours emergencies.

• Maintain accurate service records, monitor work progress and escalate issues when required.

• Work collaboratively with Engineering, other trades and departments to ensure smooth resort operations.

• Monitor stock levels, organise supplies and support apprentices and junior team members.

• Maintain safe, clean work areas and comply with relevant safety, environmental and industry standards.

• Deliver friendly, professional service while upholding InterContinental brand standards and identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and energy efficiency.

Your technical skills, teamwork and attention to detail will help ensure a comfortable environment for our guests and colleagues while keeping our island resort operating at its best.

Base rate $47.12 + penalties + loading + super

To be successful in this full-time role, you will have:

• A recognised trade qualification in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
• A current Refrigerant Handling Licence and Refrigerant Trading Authorisation, as applicable.
• A valid Queensland driver’s licence and Queensland White Card.
• Previous experience in HVAC and refrigeration maintenance, with knowledge of domestic and industrial plant and equipment.
• Practical skills in fault finding, preventative maintenance and the safe use of tools and equipment.
• A strong commitment to safety, attention to detail and maintaining high operational standards.
• The ability to work independently, collaborate with other trades and support your team when needed.
• The physical fitness required for the demands of the role and flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and varying hours as required.
