As our Director of Engineering & Work Health and Safety, you’ll lead the delivery of safe, efficient and high-performing engineering operations across InterContinental Brisbane. This pivotal leadership role ensures our property operates to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and asset performance, while supporting a truly exceptional luxury guest experience aligned with global InterContinental brand standards.

You’ll take ownership of engineering operations, asset management, and WHS governance, while playing a key leadership role in the planning and execution of an upcoming hotel refurbishment project. This includes partnering with key stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to deliver works on time, within budget, and to the exacting standards of a global luxury brand. We now invite an exceptional leader to join us as Director of Engineering—a rare opportunity to shape the future of a defining luxury destination in Brisbane.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead all engineering operations to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency 

• Oversee maintenance and operation of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and plant systems 

• Implement and manage preventative and predictive maintenance programs 

• Lead capital expenditure planning, asset lifecycle management, and major projects

• Drive energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and utility cost management 

• Ensure full compliance with Australian WHS legislation and IHG standards 

• Lead internal and external audits, compliance programs, and corrective actions 

• Oversee fire and life safety systems and critical infrastructure compliance 

• Investigate incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing improvements 

• Manage contractor onboarding, compliance, and performance standards 

• Oversee high-risk work activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols 

• Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation strategies 

• Support emergency response planning and business continuity processes 

• Develop, lead, and coach a high-performing engineering team 

• Partner with senior leaders to drive a strong safety culture and operational excellence

What we need from you

• Significant experience in engineering leadership within a hotel, hospitality, or large facility environment.
• Strong technical expertise in HVAC, building systems, and plant operations
•  Proven experience in WHS leadership, audits, and regulatory compliance
• Demonstrated success managing teams, contractors, and capital projects

• Strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation and regulatory requirements

• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
