A little taste of your day-to-day 

As our Director of Engineering & Work Health and Safety, you will lead all engineering and WHS operations within a luxury hotel environment at InterContinental Brisbane. This is a hands-on, on-property leadership role that requires extensive, proven experience in hotel or resort engineering. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and seamless operation of a complex hospitality asset, maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and asset performance, while directly enabling the delivery of an exceptional luxury guest experience in line with InterContinental brand standards. 

You will take full ownership of engineering operations, asset management, and WHS governance within a live hotel environment. A key priority will be leading the planning and execution of a major hotel refurbishment project, ensuring works are delivered seamlessly within an operating hospitality setting. This includes partnering closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to deliver outcomes on time, within budget, and to the exacting standards of a global luxury hotel brand.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Lead all engineering operations to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency  

  • Oversee maintenance and operation of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and plant systems  

  • Implement and manage preventative and predictive maintenance programs  

  • Lead capital expenditure planning, asset lifecycle management, and major projects 

  • Drive energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and utility cost management  

  • Ensure full compliance with Australian WHS legislation and IHG standards  

  • Lead internal and external audits, compliance programs, and corrective actions  

  • Oversee fire and life safety systems and critical infrastructure compliance  

  • Investigate incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing improvements  

  • Manage contractor onboarding, compliance, and performance standards  

  • Oversee high-risk work activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols  

  • Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation strategies  

  • Support emergency response planning and business continuity processes  

  • Develop, lead, and coach a high-performing engineering team  

  • Partner with senior leaders to drive a strong safety culture and operational excellence 

What we need from you 

  • Significant experience in engineering leadership within a hotel, hospitality, or large facility environment 

  • Strong technical expertise in HVAC, building systems, and plant operations 

  •  Proven experience in WHS leadership, audits, and regulatory compliance 

  • Demonstrated success managing teams, contractors, and capital projects 

  • Strong understanding of Australian WHS legislation and regulatory requirements 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
